Lacrosse Skills, Tasks, and Trouble Shooting
Skill: Catching
Hand Placement and Body Position
· Dominant hand is right below the throat of the stick.
· Non dominant hand is right above the butt end of the stick

Teaching Cues (pretend your top hand is holding a baseball mitt. Wherever the ball goes, your top hand goes.)
· Give the thrower a target
· Look the ball into the pocket
· Give with the ball, pretend it is an egg, give it a soft cushion
· Keep arm and wrists loose and relaxed
·

Modified Throwing and Catching Games
· Throwing Relays
Have 2 students at 1 cone and 2 students at another cone 20 yards away. Using 1 ball, the 1st student will run with the ball towards the other cone. When the student reaches the midway point, he/she will throw the ball to the student waiting at the cone. The student waiting at the cone will run towards the student with the ball, catch it, run to the other line, and pass the ball to the first person in the other line that is running toward them. Repeat the pattern.

· Keep Away (monkey in the middle)
Use groups of 3. Have 2 students 10 yards apart with 1 student in between them. The 2 students on the outside will throw the ball back and forth to each other while the student in the middle is chasing the person with the ball. Switch positions after 5 throws.

· Rules of 3 (3 vs. 3 keep away)
Rules
3 seconds to hold on to the ball
3 steps
3 passes
Divide the class into groups of 3. Group 1 will start with the ball. The object of the game is to have every student in the group catch a pass while Group 2 is playing defense. If each person in group 1 catches the ball, the group gets a point and they drop the ball on the ground for group 2. If Group 1 does not complete a pass (i.e dropping the ball, batted down pass) to each person in their group, they leave the ball where it was dropped and Group 2 picks up the ball and tries to complete a pass to each person in their group for a point. Any violation of the rules listed above gives the other team possession of the ball.
Safety Issue:
-Defense is played with your feet (basketball defense)
-Absolutely no stick or body contact
Offensive Concept:
-v-cut
-moving without the ball.
-picking
